Shri Panchayati Akhada Mahanirvani
Shri Panchayati Akhada Mahanirvani is a Shaivite Shastradhari Akhada, one of the three major Shastradhari Akhadas according to ancient Vedic Hindu tradition. Although its heritage is said to be ten thousand years old, it was formally organized in 748 A.D.
In 748 A.D., a group of seven sadhus from the Atal Akhada performed intense spiritual disciplines (tapas) at a place called Gangasagar. During their tapas, they were graced with the divine vision (darshan) of Saint Kapila Mahamuni. With his blessings, they revived the Naga tradition, officially naming it Mahanirvani Akhada near Neel Dhara in Haridwar. To this day, the chief deity (upaasyadev) of the Mahanirvani Akhada remains the legendary Saint Kapila Mahamuni.
The formal organization of the Akhada was further strengthened by the revered Adi Shankaracharya during his lifetime, integrating it into the broader spiritual and religious fabric of Hinduism. This Akhada continues to play a significant role in religious ceremonies and festivals, upholding ancient traditions and contributing to the spiritual heritage of India.
